Personal Thread Moderation
Let's be honest here. Not everyone on the forums is very polite when it comes to sharing their opinions, some can be rather malicious, and express their views in less than appropriate ways. I've seen it first hand on multiple threads. People harassing other people simply because they do not agree with the opposing party. It's okay to oppose an idea, however, you should be able to do so in a more acceptable manner. So it is with great disappointment in our community that I suggest thread owners (the people who submit new topics) have the right to exclude others from to 'speaking their minds' further in topics if they can not do so in an appropriate manner.
Now I'm not saying "give them the right to delete their comments and prevent them from writing any new ones in their thread." I'm saying give us a sort of "report user/comment" button that submits the discouraging individuals comment for review, if the moderators see this person unfit for democratic debate, then they can revoke the privilege from the user to speak in the topic at all. If said user continues to act in an unacceptable manner. Then their privilege to speak in the forums as a whole should be revoked entirely. Weed out the hostility. Make the forums a friendlier place. Even if it's a place of thought and debate. It should not be this hostile.
The way I see it. If you cannot respect the people around you. Then you shouldn't be allowed to subject yourselves to them. This also goes for thread owners. If you're 'trolling' as some would call it or just generally being disrespectful with your new topics. Your privilege to share anything in the forums at all should be stripped from you as consequence for your actions.
Sorry for the long delay in response. We're not exactly sure why there isn't a Report button that can be used to bring issues such as this to our attention. If you do encounter such things, what you can do is send a private message with a link to the thread and let us know the issue and an Admin can take care of the problem appropriately.
When you click to start a thread, you can choose the private tab, as shown here:
"Fresh" and "Popular" browsing tweaks.
Just a few suggestions to make browsing submissions on the website better.
Sort "Popular" by drop-downs, ranging from "Most Popular Today" to "Most Popular This Week" to "Most Popular This Month" to "Most Popular This Year" to finally "Most Popular of all time". The default value for this is "Most Popular this month" as a middle ground.
Note: The website should track whatever this setting is set to and bring it up each visit.
Make "Fresh" the default when initiating browsing of submissions, this gives other artists a chance at exposure instead of concentrating all of the traffic to a handful of winners.
Note: Setup an option in the user's account settings that allows the user to permanently change this value to something else.
Add a drop-down to "Fresh" that allows you to sort by "Fresh From People You Follow", "Fresh From People You Don't Follow" and "Fresh From Anyone". This will make fresh a little more useful, allowing us to filter the Fresh to concentrate either on people we already know we like, or from people we have yet to follow, or from anyone (default). This allows a little more filtering for discovering new people who draw art you like.
Within the "Community" tab add in a section called "Rising" for individuals that haven't become highly popular, but have hit a minimum threshold and a steady increase in traffic. That way individuals that are not yet popular, but have put in the effort have a chance at getting more visibility.
Note: May be worth putting a filter (by default) that sorts the community by people who draw artwork (Basically omitting those who have not opened commissions and have no artwork or multimedia submissions that aren't marked as "commissions"), and merge the "Open for Commission" to the Popular, Fresh, and Rising sections as a sub-setting.
Note 2: Within the community tab a floating textbox should appear that allows a user to send a customized message to users. Might be what you draw, who you are, etc. It also should probably show whether or not you are open for commissions (or if you even do them at all).
Importer verification??
I cannot for the life of me figure out what the verification box is for? At first I tried my password, then i tried my email address, but nothing. And they just fixed the importer (and plus I'm pretty new here) can anyone help?
There should be a Captcha on the page. If for some reason you don't see that appearing, go ahead and clear out the cache for your web browser; this may help this work.
Please let us know if there are any additional problems.
promoting is 'underpowered' and needs more impact
The way I see it, promoting is supposed to be what "favoriting" on other art sites is supposed to do (make it public that you liked something). But it doesn't even do that to the fullest extent. The "promoted" blip on a user's page blends in and otherwise gets lost behind all the other blips on that user's feed. If I were to go to a person's page, I shouldn't have to guess the content of the work they were promoting and feel they should include thumbails of said promoted work in the feed to make it easier for people to discover new art.
As a site that wishes to make content consumption it's main goal, the way to access new art should be effortless. The site is already halfway there with the "promotion" concept but it falls short on the principle of exposing people to new content.
Allow changing Date Of Birth / Birthday
Currently there is no way to change your Date of Birth, either for fixing mistakes or other reasons.
I'm not sure how FN's backend works, but it shouldn't be more then a few changes in the database.
Also if this is to prevent minors from going above "18 year" to allow them to see "mature content", its a lame way to do it. Its not like its actually preventing them from seeing mature content, Where there is a will there is a way.
Right now its only annoying.
Since Furry Network hosts adult content on the website, changing your date of birth requires verifying the information before we are able to change it. This is a simple process that can be done via email.
To make the change to your date of birth, we will need the following:
- An image of government issued photo ID clearly showing your photo, date of birth, and the expiration of the ID. The rest of the information can optionally be blocked out.
- A picture showing your face, while holding the photo ID from the last step and a paper showing your correct date of birth, your account email, and one of your profile @ names.
Please send these two images as an attachment via email to management@furrynetwork.com with your correct date of birth, one of your profile @ names, and account email address if it is different from the email you are sending this information from.
When we receive this information, it will be reviewed by an Admin. Once it has been verified, the information will be changed on your account. We will notify you when this process has been completed so you can check that it is correct.
Thank you for your cooperation in this process.
Text color and website themes
Suggesting the option to change the website's text color. The white text on the dark gray background — like on user profiles — is a bit too much for my eyes, personally; I can't look at the screen for more than a few minutes at a time due to the contrast. I believe that it would be good to, at the very least, give the users an option of a "light" theme (i.e., light gray background with dark gray text). I'm sure that the people who have sensitive eyes like myself would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for the consideration.
deviantart artwork import
same thing with the fa import but for deviantart, i and many other artists use both fa and da and it would be nice to be able to import artwork from both sites c:
Unfollowing for certain types of media
Hey!
One thing that I like about DeviantArt (not necessarily how it's implemented, but how it exists) is the ability to "unsubscribe" from certain types of media submitted by different people. Janet writes awesome fiction but her art isn't worthy of my scraps, meanwhile Ted is a great artist but not so great a musician. I want my Notifications to be as minimal and as relevant as possible, and I'm willing to take the time to figure out what I want from who in order to see that.
An additive feature that would make this so great would be the ability to turn off various media types by content rating. Some people just don't draw NSFW work that fits your tastes, or systematically submits art with content you find unsavory... But, you also enjoy the rest of their art and don't want to completely unfollow that media type from them. Therefore, content-rating based filtering can be very powerful.
Thank you for reading!
Auto-convert Tag spaces with Underscores instead of dashes.
When you enter a tag, it automatically turns spaces into dashes. But many pre-populated suggestion tags have underscores already. Is that because the data was brought in from e621 or something? Might want to have spaces auto-convert into undescores instead. That would be more in line with other sites' tagging / filenaming conventions.
If you decide to do this, better do it soon, because the more art people upload and tag, the more dual tags there will be. Since all the spaces are being auto-converted to dashes, it's going to become a big mess soon.
If you decide not to do this, I suggest eliminating underscores all together and converting all the pre-populated tag suggestions into ones with dashes.
Collections vs. Collections
I'm seeing a possible issue with the near-identical naming of two different features.
There is the "My Collections" option on the right sidebar when browsing art, photos, etc.
Then there is the "Artwork Collections" area on the left sidebar of /submissions/artwork/public
That might be confusing down the line.. might want to rename one of those.
