At this point, we don't plan on implementing BB-Code. However, we do plan on having a WYSIWYG editor in the next few months; this will hopefully help a great deal with formatting all across the site.

Thank you for sending this suggestion in. I'm thinking this is a problem that can't really be solved, unfortunately, especially as the site grows. Let's say, for example, that we have 1 submission every 5 submissions. Based on your top image, your picture would stay on the front of the gallery for an average of 1.5 minutes before it got moved below. As submissions increased, your average time there would decrease.

The thing is, it really starts to get risky if we start moderating how fast people can upload. If we do set restrictions, there could potentially be a pretty large backlog, and some users will stop using the site due to these delays.

There are, however, multiple things you can do as an individual to counteract this:

  • Diversity where you post content. Generally, it's good to have a few different locations when you're starting so that you can start grabbing people's attention. Once you start getting a group, you can decide if it'd be best to stay diversified or funnel down to one location.
  • Stay active. When you are working on getting an audience, having posts on a regular basis helps.
  • Think about timing. You may consider having specific days/times that you upload, especially during early afternoon hours when users are more likely to be online.
  • Use tags. It's super helpful for people who are searching the site. We're hopefully going to make improvements to the tagging system on FN.
  • Look around to see if there are any groups that create content similar to yours. There are many groups, especially on Telegram or Discord, that are welcoming to new people. Furry Network is planning group support in the future, so hopefully we'll be able to help with this.

Hopefully this helps with a few ideas for how to work around the flood that happens with main galleries. We'll continue thinking of other ways to help new artists - it can definitely be difficult to get an audience, but it's important to find one.

I'm thinking about this, and there would definitely be some issues getting it implemented; in addition, it opens the door for potential security issues. If there were more demand in the future, we could look into it, but we're going to pass on the idea for now.

We appreciate the suggestion. At this point, we're going to pass on it, but we could look into it in the future if there ever were a demand for this.

Thanks for sending this in. There's been discussion about this - the one bad thing about favorite notifications is that you wouldn't have any way to see who favorited those submissions. For me, that would be more annoying than helpful, especially if I ended up having one post receiving a lot of favorites.

We could discuss this again in the future if more people did want it, but for now, we'll go ahead and pass on the idea.

We've looked into this, and we decided to go with a Discord server. We're not currently planning for forums. I've worked on forums before, and I really prefer the feeling of Discord - it allows for quicker communication and easier means to share with other users. Forums also tend to either get stale or full of drama.

We'll stick with Discord for now. If it doesn't seem to work in the long run, we'll definitely look at other options.

I think this this is something we'd want to address before the full site launch - currently, there's not an easy way to view titles that are longer than the visual limit, and it should be fairly intuitive. We'll look into this and see what it would take to implement.

We currently have two modes to browse the What's New feed - one with icons, and one with larger images. This tends to be the most used feed, and it seems to work well.

We'll be making some changes to Activity History, as well; there's been a lot of discussion about what would be best, and in general, we are leaning towards something similar to Twitter or Tumblr - we want to make it easy for people to see, favorite, and share submissions. If we had more demand for a list-type view in the future, we could consider it.

I wanted to address this real quick here and close the topic. Stories are definitely complicated, and we don't currently have a great system for them. However, we are planning to make changes to stories:

  • We'll be adding a WYSIWYG editor that will make formatting much easier. I'll be testing this out, and if there's any way we can get images to embed with it, I'll work with the crew on that.
  • We want to allow users to upload icons for stories. This is currently done for multimedia submissions, and it makes sense to do that with stories, as well.

We'll make sure we post updates in those threads when we've made changes. I believe we'll have some other ideas or issues appear as we do that, and we'll work through them at that time.

The site has undergone some significant changes, and the layout should work for the majority of submissions. For large vertical images, users are now able to click "download" to view the full picture in its original resolution. There's likely a better way for us to communicate that to users now, but hopefully this helps.

Also, I know it's been a while, but it's just good to see you around, TK.
