Suggestion: Rename 'favorite' to 'like' and keep promotes public

Banderi 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 0

Since favorites are already anonymous and promotes act as a public favorite, my suggestion is to rename 'favorite' to 'like' and leave promote as it is, since it's a fresh terminology that gives off a vibe of originality yet retains the common favorites function from other sites. This would also have more people use the two functions, as the difference is a bit confusing right now, and maintain the great idea you guys had of seamlessly merging the function of favorites and shares commonly found in social networks.

Keeping the promotes will also fill the place of an unnecessary 'dislike' button as well, which is easily abused and the difference in feedback is still given by likes/upvotes.

P.S. I know this could have easily been put as an answer to a relative ticket, but I felt this suggestion to the site was specific enough to have its own thread!

Wrong content priorities on submission page - can't see titles and descriptions

Athari 9 years ago 0

Most of the space on submission page is wasted. Only two or three words fit from the title, the rest is cut off. Description is hidden, I have to click to see information which an artist spent time writing and wants me to read. It's like saying, "we don't care about what you say, give me the damn picture!" It's disrespectful.

But the design fails even at this. It wastes more space on tags, suggested tags, information about lack of comments etc. than on something which can actually be interesting. Considering there're no standards on tagging (or I haven't seen any, like many others), tags are full of noise: synonyms, different word separators etc. Tags are in bold, two titles for tags are even in CAPS. How many people do you think will suggest tags? Many more than those who will read description? Most people won't even read them.

Okay, below all this garbage is "Other artwork". Relatively useful, though with random sorting probably less.

Then the list of huge avatars of users who "promoted" (= "publicly favorited") a submission. Who on Earth needs this? It's the most useless information ever, even for most artists.

Overall, priorities on submission content is completely wrong.

1. Tags should be small, on one single line, with a button to suggest inline in the end, not on a separate line. Tags shouldn't occupy more than 2-3 lines, they should collapse like description now. Collapsing button shouldn't be on a separate line too.

2. Title is absolutely top priority. Under no circumstances it should be cut off. And it certainly shouldn't be on the same line as "report" button.

3. Description should be displayed in full. Well, maybe collapsed if it takes more than 2/3 of the height, but definitely not collapsed to just 4 lines of text.

4. There's no need for "no comments" or "no community tags" nonsense. There's already a counter for comments. Suggested tags are colored differently.

5. Remove the list of promoters completely. Add a link at the very bottom if you want, but don't display this garbage by default.

6. Buttons to fav/promote/download/report can be put on the bottom panel which currently is 90% wasted space. You can even put title there, especially if you remove useless text from buttons (you display hints anyway).

Adding Rating Categories/Folders within the 18+ Label as an upload requirement.

SSS 9 years ago updated by Darou 9 years ago 4

Upon uploading an image you can choose Rating: General / Mature / Explicit

Explicit content is a vague topic. Some explicit content like gore is different from sex.

There should be a requirement once clicking the "Explicit" to drop down and choose all that apply..

Vore
Gore
Self Harm
Drug Abuse
CP / Diapers
Sexual Content Vaginas showing
Sexual Content Penises showing
Religious
Other sensitive explicit content

The reason I chose [Sexual Content Vaginas showing] and [Sexual Content penises showing]

is where you can choose 1 or both. Because "Gay/Straight/other sexual relations" are a spectrum. It's best to just be specific on what is being seen rather than having a "Gay" label etc.

Below is a screen shot image of how FN looks during the upload process and to the right my rendition on how it should look with these categories. The categories have no limit to how many you choose that apply to the image you are uploading.

Image 193

*The labels I chose in red are for visual appeal only!

The next step is having a block for this category. It is not required to use Tags, this is an issue. We must require the label to protect the viewers on the content. This can protect our jobs along with people in other countries that can be jailed having access to some content. Lets protect our viewers and give them a solid choice on the matter!

Thank you for reading. Please keep all comments civil and respectful. If you have any questions read the content again in case you missed something.

Cycle the popular pieces of art as well as community figures.

Zynk 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 3

Please make is so that when we click to sort by "popular" for people, art, media, etc. it shows us the people or pieces that have the most promotions within the last week (or last 72 hours, hour, etc. give us an option to make our 'flavor of the month' longer or shorter). Also give us the current option of "most popular of all-time".

This makes it so that we have a consistent cycle of popular art and trends. It would work simalarly to Reddit's front page.

Thank you!

Prompt before flagging user

Kon 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 3

Just to clarify, it's the flagging under the "more" dropdown on a user's page.

I acidentally flagged someone while browsing and was a bit surprised that there's no confirmation prompt nor unflagging.

Custom markdown for common external links

Kelevra 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 2

Create custom markdown similar to InkBunny fa!, sf!, da!, and w! to create links to those sites. this would allow easier linking to others when sourcing art and characters. Also the ability to @ someone on FN would be helpful too instead of having to do [link](url)

Answer

We are currently planning to implement a better text editor for the site. This will make linking much easier and should remove the need for custom markdown.

Increase the Username character limit

TheGreatWolfgang 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 2

When trying to make a new account in the FurryNetwork site, I'm face with the obstacle that the character name field only limits 15 characters.

I feel that it would be a good idea to increase the limit to at least 24 characters as 15 seems to be too little, though reasonable for urls.

Bug report - Wrong FA username stuck in my Import data tool

Shibara 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 5

With the whole FA password changing snafu, the import process stopped for me. When I tried today to make it work again wih the new password, under FURAFFINITY.NET USERNAME it reads my mail, instead of username, so it doesn't recognize my FA page and is unable to log in. The problem is it also doesn't allow me to change this value, only type in a new password.

Answer

The import appears to have gone through on June 4th. We have had a few various issues with the importer, and on occasion, it does struggle to work correctly. If you have any other issues, feel free to submit a ticket; we are getting to the new tickets quickly now that we have more staff.

Tagging: Space should become underscores, not hyphens.

Growlmon 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 1

When you're tagging things, pressing space becomes a hyphen. It'd be really nice if that could be changed to underscore so it'd be in line with e621.net, perhaps base the tagging system off of what they have since it works like a dream.
