Maybe icons and fonts seem a bit big for me

mindbcomplex 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

I know nothing about web design, but everything feels clamped together imo. The design itself is awesome, but feels like the buttons and designated spaces take a lot for themselves. And I can perfectly read smaller fonts.

So that's my feedback, I'm sorry if I sound rude.

Answer

We've had some significant site redesigns to make better use of the space. At this point, we're close to having this finalized.

Using href Tags When Specifying Where A User Should Go

Hyginx 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

This is more of a user-friendly addition than a bonus feature. One of the quickest ways to lose a customer/user is to make it hard for them to find what they are searching for. It is because of this that I think it would be a good idea to either replace the direction to a page and instead use a tag to direct to it, or just adding it to the desired destination (i.e. "Settings -> Control Panel -> Site Layout/Theme" and adding an href to Site Layout/Theme that links to the page).

I love where this site is going and can't wait for it to be released tot he world.

Best of luck,

- Hyginx

Knowledge bases doesn't work

Teya 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

Hey there! :)

I wanted to take a look at the Knowledge Bases to be able to use Furrynetwork in the right way. The only thing is: There isn't something be shown. There is nothing in general. Is it because I use Firefox or didn't you add some things there?

Lovely greetings from

Teya <3

Answer

Articles at this point have not been added to the Knowledge Base. These will be updated as time goes on. No changes to the Knowledge Base structure are needed.

See Latest Art?

IJrges 8 years ago updated by Rykomi (Support Admin) 8 years ago 4

When I go to my front page I only see posts by artists I'm following, and my buttons on the bottom only take me to popular posts, which haven't changed hardly in months. How in the heck do I see a feed of just the latest submissions (by chronology)? I want to browse art to find artists, but I cannot find artists as long as only the same images are visible.

Seach for artwork with any of the tags you enter instead of all of them.

trecneps 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

This could just be a checkbox by the search box. Or there could be 2 fields to type in. One would be "artwork with all of these tags" and the other would be "artwork with any of these tags."

Additionally, I think it would be helpful if an advance search was added.

Example, say I want to look at male characters, but only wolves and foxes. I could enter in something along the lines of "male AND (wolf OR fox)" to find only male characters that are either wolves or foxes.

Answer

At this point, there hasn't been a large amount of demand for the "or" function. We are looking into improvements for the tagging system, though; once those are out, if there is more demand for this function, we can look into what it takes to implement that.

Infinite scrolling does not unload posts after they leave the screen

Asonix 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

In order to improve efficiency, posts and images and stuff no longer visible (scrolled past) should be unloaded (just removed from the page probably) to preven the browser from freezing and crashing after trying to render too many elements.

Answer

At this point, previous posts are unloaded in order to prevent the crashing described in this idea. This definitely has helped with stability.

Encrypt support.furrynetwork.com

Due to the option of logging in via this unencrypted URL instead of beta.furrynetwork.com, it would be wise to extend that TLS 1.2 encryption to this subdomain.

Collapsible tag search pane

Songbird 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

When viewing galleries, I would be appreciate the option (arrow icon) to collapse the search pane on the right into a thin strip, using the same icon to revert it to its full size.

Presently, I can only see three rows and five columns of thumbnails on my regular-sized laptop monitor, the least amount of thumbnails at a glance between FN, Fur Affinity, e621, SoFurry, and Inkbunny. Refreshing thumbnails to fit the additional space when the tag search element is collapsed would make browsing artwork more comfortable for someone accustomed to the higher information density offered by competing image gallery websites.

Answer

The site has had a significant redesign since that time. While only a few rows can be seen, the thumbnails are now compact, and this makes it easier to view a large amount of thumbnails at a time.

Option to disable sticky navbar

Songbird 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

One of the biggest grievances I have with the UI of Furry Network is the sticky navbar. While a common tenet of modern web design, it limits screen real estate, and in my opinion, the resultant claustrophobia is worse than occasionally having to press the 'home' key to access that menu.

I understand that some people enjoy quick access, but as someone who's accustomed to websites where all content moves on a scroll event, having a UI element not budge is jarring and limiting. Please include an option to disable this behavior.

Answer

After a significant amount of redesign, we are now happy with the general layout. I imagine this could still be simplified further, but we are close to finalized. The navbar at the right side of the screen is now gone.

Retrieve deleted journal

Rafael Montero 8 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

I seem to have messed up and clicked on the "X" on my post/journal entry and now it is completely gone. It was really long and very personal and important to me so it will kind of break my heart if it's permanently lost.

Is there any way I can have the post restored from an earlier time? Even after I deleted it it seemed to flash on my dash for a second so it seems like maybe it's SOMEWHERE, just hidden? is there a toggle? A trash can somewhere?

Answer

We don't currently have the ability to automatically save drafts, so we highly recommend saving drafts periodically. As the site grows, this request could become more common, and we can look into including automatically saved drafts at that time.
