tags of interest indicated while browsing

Miyuni Doxaei 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 0 1 duplicate

I think it would be nice if tags of interest had some kind of an indicator letting you know a post features a group of them or something like it. I put together a little example of what may work well, especially if users could customize it in some way. In this example, the symbol could appear once a certain number of tags are featured (or a specific group) and can grow based on how many tags of interest it has beyond that. Perhaps instead of growing, it could instead change color or symbol.

A Dynamic Following / Follower list

lykanthrope 9 years ago 0

It would great to have a more dynamic list in both Following and Follower than just first on the list. It would also help occasionally clear up when some people have deleted their accounts but their watch still exists.

Imported stories that have different fonts do not render correctly.

Fory Otter 9 years ago 0

It would seem that stories that have certain fonts do not always wrap correctly when the font is switched. Here is an example: https://beta.furrynetwork.com/story/2100/recycling/

Some Submission publish status

HornsNTails 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 1

Hey guys, I have some idea to enrich the submission status in furry network. I sent this as private topic before but the support admin told me to post it as Public so we can see the community feedback regarding this.

Currently we have these kinds of submission status which I feel it lack of some options.

Public : everyone can see

Unlisted : everyone that has link can see

Draft : only creator can see

Here are the list of change which I feel will enrich the submission status.

1. Change "Unlisted" --> "Private" - like in here https://support.furrynetwork.com/topics/147-unlisted-vs-privacy/ basically it is the same thing with Unlisted right now. But I feel the term "Unlisted" is better to be suited to Unlisted v2.0 below.

2. "Unlisted" v2.0 : everyone can see it but it is NOT listed in the discovery page / main artwork (I feel this more fit to the name). I have this idea to respect this is Furry site but I have some human artwork which I want to upload to my gallery but I do not want to show up in the "Artwork > Popular -or- Fresh" -- sort of archives. (this is completely based on my point of view)

3. "Stealth" : everyone can see but it NOT listed in the discovery / main Artwork page and doesn't show up neither in Follower notification. This is will be good for Scraps - WIP, rough, something random or something silly.

4. "Group Only" : only selected people or group can see the artwork - https://support.furrynetwork.com/topics/154-circles-and-sharing-with-specific-people/, which it won't show up in Discovery page, but it might show up in Follower notification. It might be very useful for creative process like collaboration or commission (WIP) . I realize this can easily be taken with file sharing like Dropbox etc, but isn't Furry Network suppose to be like one- stop for artist? So why not?...

5. And of course this will open a possibility for "Custom" with artist can toggle some parameter for the type - probably with more additional option which community (you all) can share your thought below.

Thank you for reading.

Cycling through new submissions from the "What's new" page

Sebin Nyshkim 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 1

I really liked the "following" FN collection under the artwork tab, as it allowed for just cycling through pictures by only the users I follow, but it's gone. It allowed for easier browsing through the "What's new" stuff by just opening the pic in full screen and work through everything.

I know you can almost do the same by using the list view on the "What's new" page but it's clumsy and error prone: most of the time I fav/promote then delete the submission until there are none left, when I try to fetch new submissions it doesn't work most of the time and when I refresh the page they are all back. It is also rather non-existent on mobile devices and users have no option to cycle through images with ease.

By reintroducing the "following" FN collection users could cycle through most recent to oldest posted pictures only by artists they follow and use keyboard shortcuts or on screen elements (these are already/still there in the submission view for easy cycling and faving/promoting).

As an alternative: when a user opens a submission from "What's new" allow them to cycle through the rest of the pictures that would be on the "What's new" page (at least for mobile visitors).

Ability to Share Characters

Strangely 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 1

Wanted to see if anyone else you like to see this feature. Very close to actually the way tumblr shares their blogs. One person would make a new character and add another user through email or username. ( if you happen to not be a user of tumblr, you have both users ( or many users) have their own accounts. One will make a new blog, and add the others through email as an "admin" or " mod" Of that blog,it gives them the ability to post, edit, and share on that blog just as if you had made it your self, only thing you cannot do is delete the blog it's self, all much agree or leave the blog before hand)

This way those who have shared profiles, or say a secondary collaboration accounts with other friends or users, will not have to make a third account and just pass the password back and fourth.

Add a submit/manage content button to the header navigation

Silent Ravyn 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 8 years ago 1

Adding content is one of the main purposes of this site just as important as browsing, so it should be given equal importance in the navigation. Currently a user has to search for this function in the dropdown menu, and it isn't even listed first.

If the staff do not agree that it should be in the top navigation (ie. if that area should be for browsing the site only, and edits made under the user dropdown), then this option should at least be given a big button like the logout button in the user dropdown, and be listed first. Icons can also help the user find what they are looking for by a quick visual cue, just like the main navigation.

I'm a very capable web user and I still find myself tripping over the navigation when I am trying to upload new content. I'm sure I am not the only one.

Thanks!

Change Art submission to Story submission (or other)

rickpgriffin 9 years ago 0

To be frank, FA's "Literature" system on its own was garbage and a lot of people didn't want to utilize it, instead opting to post a regular Art submission file with the story in the description, because at least then it didn't have the weird necessity to have the story in TXT-or-download only, and the banner image for the story could be full size instead of a tiny thumbnail.

Currently, though, FN's FA uploader does not discriminate and I have a number of stories I can't fix without re-uploading entirely. Currently, all the submission files are in a fixed order (On my page they're in reverse order and impossible to put back in order, but that's another ticket) and it'd be impossible to put them back in sequence without just throwing everything out and starting over.

Useful Tools menu is way down there! Potential UX improvement.

Tarocco 9 years ago updated by Digby (Community Manager) 7 years ago 1

Have a look at this screenshot.

Image 238

These tools are too useful to be all the way down there! They deserve more love in the upper half of the screen. The blue line shows the 1080px mark. I almost didn't know where to find the options on this page!

But it appears that these options are also available in the user nav menu.

Questions

Wolfblade 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 2

I made a comment on the blog post, but didn't save it before moving to a different page. Is there way I could recover that post, or ask that it be copy-pasted to me somewhere?

Also, since the appropriate thread designated for points to ban or unban things are locked, is there any place that IS deemed appropriate for people to be able to discuss or express their feelings on the still-recent decision? It seems like locking discussion on what was a relatively hastily made decision given the significance of the issue at hand (censorship on an art site, endorsing condemnation of people on 'moral' grounds over what they draw, inviting people who won't be happy without asking you to expel others rather than allowing them to walk away, etc) would serve more to just hope people accept it and move on, when there's still factors that clearly have not been fully appreciated here. A bad decision is best retracted while fresh, rather than allowed to settle and clearly, it WILL be an ongoing issue as you have opened the door (literally, making a designated place inviting people to ask to ban more stuff) to further argument and upset as it is inevitable that more content will be condemned for the same reasons, and with no defense other than the one already deemed insufficient here, it will be a drawn-out series of upsets to artists who may not have been affected by this ban, but will be affected by the future bans that are inevitable without taking a hypocritical position towards other forms of objectionable content.

I'm not trying to ignore that other threads on the subject have been closed, but lacking an appropriate place to speak while it is still relevant, I hope this is a civil enough post to not warrant consequence. Close the thread if you must, but I hope the questions have answers.

I'm almost certain that we can't recover your blog post - that would be on your computer, and regrettably if you didn't submit it, we don't save a copy.

The forums really are not meant to be a hosting ground for 'which of these two options are better' and that was explained in the post made by Varka, here. A statement on [ban/unban content type thread] will be coming soon.

Additionally, I'm sorry that you do not feel that we made the right decision regarding cub porn, however I'm firmly of the belief that we aren't going to re-open this subject.
