'Auction' submission type

Rather than trying to manage an auction in the comments of a standard submission, maybe just lean into it and create a separate submission type that manages bidding and automatically creates a new commission-in-progress once the auction closes.

We've discussed this internally, and we think that this would be best served as a real feature put together after the site launches.

There's a number of things that we realized would be immediately needed if we were to make this feature - most notably, an interface for artists / sellers to manage and cancel bids, a policy and functionality for managing non-paying bidders and second-chance offers in the event of nonpayment, as well as a bunch of other related features including administration to help resolve disputes.

We want auctions to be amazing, and think they deserve to be their own separate project. This suggestion of a simple addition is good - but we think we can make it better.

I like this idea a lot - especially as it opens up opportunities for proper auction tools like reputation scoring / minimums, ability to remove bids, and ties into the commission system and payment tools already on the site. :D

You could also have ebay-style sorting options when browsing auctions, like sort by ending soonest, or auctions with autobuy/buy-it-now only.

I'd love to have a system like that! That would be awesome to see, I'm sure it could be quite useful.

This is a great idea!

You basically could make a system similar to ebay out of that

This would be WONDERFUL

I actually was about to suggest this exact thing. I do a bunch of YCHs and I would love this feature!

I wanted to down vote the original post...but hearing that staff is taking it and wanting to refine the integrated usage, call this an up vote from me!

It's a BIG, delicate area...but I think with post launch consideration, can be pulled on site in a way that doesn't downplay commission work into lowest bidder buy outs.

Oh hey, it is already posted here. I didn't notice cause I searched YCH and forgot to look for Auction. :P Apparently all posts are moderated, which is annoying, however that being the case, a moderator will see my post and can attach this properly to this topic.

I did go a bit more in depth so hopefully it helps Varka and the others in their internal discussion on how to impliment such a feature.

I'd believe YCH and Auctions are slightly different thing. However, your linky here should be enough to allow us consider that aspect as well when reviewing it.
