Animated GIF submissions support

I wanna upload stuff like this to this site! Can we allow for animated GIF submissions? And animated preview icons of them? That would be very rad.

You can upload gifs under multimedia

Crazy that this isn't supported. Uploading as multimedia doesn't work for me, because it's pushed into a separate gallery, and doesn't autoplay when you view it.

Currently, uploading in multimedia is the best way to upload animated .gif files. This allows us to have all animated files in a single location. For previews, it would likely take a good amount of work and server space to do this; if we had more demand for this in the future, we could definitely look into it.
