Imported artwork shouldn't show up in "Fresh" feed

Varka (Spokesdragon) 9 years ago updated by Rykomi (Support Admin) 8 years ago 12 4 duplicates

When you import your artwork / photos to Furry Network using the importer, it spams the "fresh" page with all your new submissions, making it hard to see what recently-made artwork has been uploaded.

Either imported artwork should not show up in "Fresh" feed (or in other people's feeds, if they're already following you), or there should be a check box (unticked by default), that says "Show imported artwork" or similar.

Basically, imported artwork will not show up on the fresh feed or in users' "What's New" page, except in one specific circumstance (eg, when you're using the import tool to sync across 'new work' after your initial import - we'll be adding a way for you to have it show up in feed and fresh; specific implementation details to follow).

That would be a nice feature!

Maybe, if you use the import tool, the system could only generate one thumbnail on the fresh page that states the user has just imported his gallery (Maybe make this kind of thumbnail stand out from the others with a special symbol or something?). When you click on the thumbnail it directs you to the user's gallery where you can view all the imported pieces.

This could apply to more than just imports. You could group together all submissions by the same artist in a specified time-frame (an hour, 15 minutes, whatever works out well)

I feel that Simplemind's options would be really good. It'd have the idea of "New user just joined FN! Check out their gallery!" rather than "Hey, have fifty thumbnails of the same character".

Another suggestion would be, perhaps, a separate page for this stuff - in addition to Fresh and Popular, you could have "New Galleries" or the like. This could mesh with the Community tag.

As for the original ideas, I feel that the 'Check Box' idea has more of a merit - sometimes, people want to see those freshly uploaded galleries after all!

I noticed this myself as well! It'd be cool if they were dated properly as well?? might help fix this issue.

I just posted that as a separate idea, though implementing that might also solve this issue. Specifically, if imported submissions take the original timestamp, then the site can just sort on time and everything works.

I agree, Im having a hard time using the site right now cause almost anything in the fresh feed is all imported pictures from people who literally have an archive thousands deep. Id really like a way to keep these out of the new feed.

Planned

This is planned for launch!

I do believe that it is a result of the importer algorythm. I also believe that given enough time, we will rarely see this happen anymore.

other than that, I've already seen suggestion thread(s) to gather such items into one collective post which in my opinion most logically should lead to the uploader's profile or art gallery. this thread is essentially a duplicate, tho I cannot remember which thread is the original.
