Submission Rating suggestion on Defaults

Ailurucanis 8 years ago updated by Twilight (Lead Administrator) 8 years ago 5

Normally when you are submitting a work / editing a draft piece for submission, the Submission Rating is defaulted to General.
Wanted to suggest that there be no default rating given to drafts, and that users will be required to manually select them (even if it is a general level work) and if they attempt to submit without applying a rating, they receive some sort of notification to the effect of "Please select and appropriate content rating before submitting."

Often times I may be writing up a draft submission and either rushing or doing so absentmindedly and often times will forgot some things: and what with the rating type being all the way at the bottom this is often one of those things.
Fortunately it has only happened once but i've accidentally submitted a mature / nude artwork with a general rating because I just totally forgot about it.

I also wanted to suggest this because, I was discussing the site with a friend and they mentioned that in the short time they've used the site they have had to report several works that were mis labeled as 'General', and we both thought that changing / removing the default rating and forcing a manual selection may cut down on works that slip through on accident. Thanks for reading! :D

Thanks for sending this in! I can see some good and some bad things about this suggestion. The good is that we will protect people from seeing accidental mature submissions in the general gallery; honestly, this is super important, and we want to keep all mature content behind the mature category. The bad thing, though, would be the length of time needed to review each submission. However, it might be worth slowing submitters down so we don't have this accidentally happen.

We'll be discussing this, and I'd like to hear others' thoughts.

Would there be a need to review every submission? :O I was more so just going the route of a simple pop-up, similar to the one that's like 'Hey! You're about to make this public, are you sure?' but in this case it would be one that appears *if* a maturity rating hasn't been selected, that would say something simple such as 'Please select a maturity rating to make this submission public.' Is all ^^'

Oh, that makes things fairly simple, actually. My main thought was that FN allows mass publishing, and I think that's where most of the errors appear - we've had some imports recently where several mature pictures were published in the general category. Because it happens fairly regularly, I do think we could do something to prevent that. A popup before publishing might be enough to make people remember to change the rating.

About having a pre-selected category - I'm thinking if there's any way we can keep this while getting people to change mature images, that would be good. Having it automatically select general speeds up the process for the majority of submissions to the site.

I personally kinda like it. Either some sort of notification if system figure it might be adult/mature rating, or straight out adjusting the pre-select according to tags.
Also it's likely better if pg image ends up in mature than other way around.

In the long run, I think that this would make moderation much easier and faster since mislabeled rating is the number 1 ticket reason right now.
